Rates & Insurance FAQ
-
Yes. Insurance acceptance varies by therapist. Please review each therapist’s insurance options above, as not all clinicians are paneled with the same plans.
-
Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis and medical necessity criteria, which can limit what is addressed in sessions. Private pay allows therapy to focus on personal growth, relational concerns, and trauma healing without restrictions.
-
Yes. If your therapist is out-of-network with your insurance plan, we can provide a monthly superbill for you to submit for potential reimbursement.
-
Coverage varies by plan. During your consultation, we will check your insurance benefits through a company we use for billing. At that time we are typically able to give you an estimate cost per session base on your benefits. We also recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to ask about copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket costs for outpatient mental health services.
Why Choose Private Pay Therapy?
-
Increased Privacy & Confidentiality
Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis and ongoing documentation to approve and continue coverage. With private pay, your therapy remains between you and your therapist—no third-party oversight.
-
Freedom from Treatment Restrictions
Private pay allows your therapist to tailor care to your needs without needing to justify a diagnosis, meet medical-necessity criteria, or limit the length or frequency of sessions.
-
More Personalized, Trauma-Informed Care
Therapy can move at your pace. Sessions are guided by what feels most supportive and effective for you rather than what insurance will reimburse.
-
Consistency & Continuity
Insurance plans, coverage, and benefits can change unexpectedly. Private pay offers consistency in your care without interruptions due to authorization issues or policy changes.
-
Ideal for Relationship Trauma, Burnout, and Personal Growth
Many concerns—such as people-pleasing, boundary struggles, relational trauma, and healing after toxic relationships—are not always well-supported by insurance models but are well-suited for private pay therapy.
-
Flexible Goals That Can Evolve Over Time
Your goals don’t have to stay the same or fit into a medical model. Private pay allows space for exploration, insight, and growth as your needs change.
Check Out-of-Network Benefits Here
If we don’t accept your insurance directly, your plan may have out-of-network (OON) benefits, which means your insurance will could reimburse you for a large portion of our session cost. Please use the Thrizer widget here to check whether you have OON benefits and your expected fee post deductible. Reminder this is an estimate used with a third party company to help you understand your benefits, we recommend double checking your insurance company.
